Open Tabs

Here are some tabs I have open that I’ll sort through and list and write about—

((I never know when to post one of these posts…What is to be their structure? It’s so loose. And there’s so many open tabs to get through today. I guess I’m thinking of when D. Berman would post links, or even before that, back in the “glory” days of the Blogsfeare…that kind of thing…Should I post them every so often, or limit the number of them? There’s more to link to than there’s ever time, and “nobody reads” it anyhow. I suppose I’m thinking of a younger me, sitting at their work computer (a G3 tower, and one of those big Apple CRTs for a monitor). Kill some time while you drink your coffee; may as well click on some links, read some stuff. Who knows what might blow your mind or change your life or distract you or the opposite of distract you. Slot machine or wander in the forest or browse.))

  • Do Bad Reviews Kill Companies?

  • I was thinking of this in re: the subjects of Taste and Judgment, Honesty and Truth, Team Comics, etc. and the ecosystems of commodities and so on, and blessings upon the Reviewer who says “I don’t have any duty to anything—the companies whose products I cover—my only duty is to my readers.” But what if the reviewer is popular enough to have a company, and to pay for the streams they have to carry ads, and so on? What if they want to be friends with the Makers? Work together? They are already a publisher, a gatekeeper, a tastemaker. The market incentives are usually bad and irresistible, and making decisions about money and integrity, etc. Bite the hand… to be honest? Being poor is fun.

  • I like this substack, it’s earnest and thorough and smart, even when I disagree It seems set up to be disagreed with in a workable way. This one has interesting comments, a lot to think about. It’s a list of “Things That Don’t Work” according to the writer. I appreciate putting cards down, and showing the work (I’m too disorganizized and etc.)
